EDP Porto Marathon is part of the World Major Marathons
The 16th edition of the EDP Porto Marathon will integrate the World Major Marathons. The biggest marathon in Portugal takes place this year on November 3rd and introduces this great news.
The AbbottWMM has launched the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Rankings, the first ever global age group marathon ranking system. The qualification begins in Berlin in September 2018 and will include more than 50 races across the world.
EDP Porto marathon, in November, will be one of the qualifying stages for the AbbottWMM World Championship Wanda Age Group, which will take place during one of the six most recognized marathons in the world - Tokyo Marathon, B.A.A. Boston Marathon, Virgin Money London Marathon, BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, Bank of America Chicago Marathon or TCS New York City Marathon in 2021.

More than 125,000 runners aged 40+ participate in AbbottWMM races each year and this new system will allow even more runners to become a part of the AbbottWMM family. Our system gives runners a chance to run all over the world and all across the calendar on a truly global stage. We want to give them a chance to gain recognition like never before”.
EDP Porto Marathon in elite marathons
The EDP Porto Marathon brings together three of the biggest and best chancelleries in the world, the Bronze Label Road Race by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), a distinction that places it as one of the best races in the world marathon circuit and as an official race of the IAAF´s calendar, the 5 stars by the European Athletics Association, "Quality Road Race", which guarantees that the race has "a high level of personal and property security and high quality services" and is now also part of the Wanda Age Group World Major Marathons.
The 16th EDP Porto Marathon will be held on November 3rd 2019, at 9:00 am, starting next to Sealife Porto and arriving at the Queimódromo (City Park of Porto).
